James Nelson

Memorial services for James Edward Nelson will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grass Valley.

Mr. Nelson died Sunday, Feb. 6. He was 91.

He was born Aug. 21, 1913, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Neils and Margaret Nelson. He moved with his family to Sacramento and worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad from July 1934 to October 1974, except for when serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1972, he moved to Grass Valley. He enjoyed puttering around his house and yard, and playing with his dogs.



He is survived by his nieces and nephews-in-law Marilyn and Wendell Bell, Karen and John Frogatt; niece, Janet Nelson. He was preceded in death by his wives Kathleen Nelson, and Doris Nelson; sister, Josephine Foote; and brother, Arthur Nelson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the S.P.C.A., or the charity of the donor’s choice.




Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
