Memorial services for James Melvin Hawkeswood of Yerington, Nev., will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Methodist Church in Yerington, Nev. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grass Valley.

Mr. Hawkeswood died Saturday, March 4. He was 80.

He was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Santa Rosa, to Joseph and Lillian (Payton) Hawkeswood. He worked for the Rainbo Baking Company for more than 28 years. He was a major logistics officer and member of the Nevada Squadron of Civil Air Patrol. He was a past volunteer fireman and past Fire Chief of the Grass Valley Fire Department. He was also a past Grass Valley Elementary School Board President and member and a past member of the Nevada County School Board.



He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty; sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Diana Hawkeswood, and Kenneth and Laura Hawkeswood; daughter, Janet Sanderson; sister, Delores Alford; grandchildren Kelly Latorraca, Jason Sanderson, Jay Hawkeswood, Abbey Hawkeswood; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyon County Civil Air Patrol Cadets, P.O. Box 50, Yerington, Nev., 89447.




Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
