James Fernhoff

Services for James Frederick Fernhoff of Nevada City will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.

Mr. Fernhoff died Sunday, Aug. 18, at home. He was 74.

He was born March 8, 1928, in Oakland to Burton Frederick and Eleanor Grace (Travis) Fernhoff. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from City College of San Francisco and from the University of California at Berkeley with a major in political science. He was owner/real estate broker of Nevada-West Realty since 1962. He was a member of the Gold Unit Shrine Club, Nevada Lodge No. 13, Madison Lodge of Grass Valley, Nevada City Lions Club, and the Nevada County Board of Realtors. He enjoyed reading and traveling.

He is survived by his sons James William Fernhoff and Richard Stephen Sessions; sister, Joann VanGilder; grandchildren Mathew Fernhoff and Michelle Fernhoff; stepsons Robert Bradford Kelley and Paul Bryon Kelley; and his companion of 28 years, Durinda Kelley. He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Kylie Ann Fernhoff, in 2001.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills or Cancer Aid Thrift Store.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
