James Else

James Else, 83, of Nevada City died Monday, Oct. 7, in Grass Valley.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services.

Mr. Else was born April 12, 1919, in Youngstown, Ohio, to James G. Else Sr. and Edna M. Pitts. He attended the Admiral Billard Naval Academy and Northeastern University. He served in the U.S. Navy in air transport command for four years. He married Georgina on June 23, 1944, in St. Joseph, Mo. He was self-employed.

He was a member and leader of the Nevada County 4-H Council. He was also a member of the Watt Park Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion. He enjoyed people, traveling and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Georgina Else of Nevada City; son, James G. Else III of Shrewsbury, Mass.; daughter, JoAnne Peacock of Visalia; brother, Richard Else of Tucson, Ariz.; grandsons Peter Else of Washington, D.C., and Scott Peacock of Visalia; and granddaughters Jesse Giessow of Encinitas and Leslie Peacock of Visalia. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeane Mulligan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
