James Bowen

Services for James Ray Bowen will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the New Covenant Baptist Church, 453 S. Auburn St. in Grass Valley. Private graveside services will be conducted at the Redmen Cemetery in Grass Valley.

Mr. Bowen died Monday, Feb. 16, after a four-year battle with renal cell carcinoma. He was 65.

He was born Aug. 2, 1938, in Bakersfield to James A. Bowen and Thelma L. McNeely. He worked for the city of Grass Valley as a maintenance worker from 1979 to 2000. He was a member of the New Covenant Baptist Church of Grass Valley.



He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Donna F. Smith-Bowen; daughter, Pamela Hansen of Grass Valley; son, Michael Hansen of Marysville; sisters and brothers-in-law Bonnie and Jerry Oliver of Red Bluff and Rene and Keith Olsen of Sacramento; brothers Hank and Cliff Bowen of Red Bluff; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Terri Hansen in 2003.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Covenant Baptist Church Building Fund.




Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
