James Armentrout

James T. Armentrout, 79, of Rough and Ready died Saturday, May 29, at Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services.

Mr. Armentrout was born Oct. 13, 1924, in Banks, Ore., to Charles and Caroline (Hiatt) Armentrout. In his youth he was an avid traveler and mountain climber. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946. After his discharge he worked as a construction supplies manager in the South Pacific, Morocco and Saudi Arabia. In the mid-1960s he began work as a postal clerk and continued until retiring in 1987. He married Dorothy J. Souder in 1964.

He received his GED at the age of 60 via a Veteran’s Continuing Education Program.

He enjoyed camping and bicycling. In his retirement years, he enjoyed archery and car restorations.

He is survived by his daughter, Kelly A. Haines of San Francisco.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sierra Club.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
