Irma Walkinshaw

Memorial services for Irma Ruth Walkinshaw of Grass Valley will be conducted from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Highgate Retirement Village in Grass Valley.

Mrs. Walkinshaw died Friday, March 22, in Grass Valley. She was 86.



She was born on Nov. 4, 1915, in New Britain, Conn., to William and Rose Riedel. She lived most of her life in Kensington, Conn., and then in Westfield, Mass., before moving to Highgate Retirement Village in 1999.




She worked in the retail business in New Britain for many years. She was a member the Eastern Star. She enjoyed music and playing the piano and organ.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverley Steele, of Nevada City; grandchildren Jennifer Benkman of Las Cruces, N.M., Amy Steele Cubillo of Palo Alto and Mark Steele of Nevada City; great-grandchildren Colin Estes, Anna Estes, Ryan Cubillo and Katherine Benkman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Walkinshaw.

Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA or World Wildlife Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
