Irene Slobig

Graveside services for Irene Rose Silva Henwood Slobig of Grass Valley will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grass Valley.

Mrs. Slobig died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. She was 97.

She was born April 16, 1907, in Blue Tent, to Joe and Mary Silva. She was the second generation born to the Silva family in Nevada County. She married Charles C. Henwood in 1928, they lived in Grass Valley except for a short time in Berkeley and Vallejo during the war. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed her home, family and garden. In 1981 she married Ray Slobig and they enjoyed traveling.



She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Charles Welch of Campbell; granddaughter, Yvonne Mills of San Jose; five nieces and nephews; and 37 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands Charles C. Henwood in 1970; and Ray Slobig in 1993; brothers, Earl, Albert, and Harry; and sisters Bernice and Lucille.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
