Initiative empowers individuals

The Citizen Power Initiative empowers all citizens. Until I retired, I was a member of a union. Had I not been, I would have been removed from my position at my work site and denied the right to vote in any work site or union election.

More egregious was the fact that my not insignificant amount of union dues was being used for causes I found morally abhorrent and in conflict my religious beliefs.

Rank-and-file members were never consulted, polled or in any way given an opportunity to express their wishes as to political candidates or issues.

Further, when I was given a mandatory transfer by my employer based solely on my race, the union refused to help me, saying the transfer was good for me even though it resulted in increased travel times and personal expense. The union leadership has tremendous power with huge amounts of money gleaned from the rank and file to dispense as it chooses in influencing elections. The Citizen Power Initiative would remove the financial political power from union bosses. Individuals would then be free to use their money to support the political candidates and causes they believe in.
