Hugh Oglesby

A celebration of life for Hugh Oglesby of Grass Valley will be conducted at a later date.

Mr. Oglesby died Friday, Aug. 30, in Grass Valley. He was 80.



He was born July 6, 1922, in Porterville to Maud and Richard Oglesby. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1943 to 1946. He graduated from the University of the Pacific. He married Claire on April 24, 1966, in Reno.

He worked for 30 years as a district manager of H&R Block in Stockton and owned an H&R Block franchise in Half Moon Bay for 10 years. He enjoyed going to Oakland A’s baseball games and cruising on ships.




He is survived by his wife, Claire Oglesby of Grass Valley; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Greg Nagel of Modesto; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Meg Canote of San Diego; grandchildren Cory and Carly Nagel of Modesto and Rebecca and Kevin Canote of San Diego; and mother-in-law Birdie Rytie of Stockton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
