Howard “Rusty” L. Hunt died June 5 in Baker City, Ore. He was 73.

A graveside service was held at Monday at the Rock Creek Cemetery in Haines, Ore. The Rev. Roger Scovil of the Baker City Christian Church officiated.

Mr. Hunt was born May 13, 1935, in Eureka to Bertha and Ervin Hunt. He married Dawna Jackson 47 years ago on July 4.

Mr. Hunt retired from Operating Engineers after working for A-Teichert & Sons for 20 years. In 1982, he went to work for Nevada Irrigation District, Yuba Bear Division in Grass Valley. He retired in 1996 after 14 years of service. He was a member of the Madison Lodge No. 23 F&AM in Grass Valley for 37 years. He enjoyed fishing and mining, and was a member of Eastern Oregon Miners & Prospectors Inc.

Mr. Hunt is survived by his wife, Dawna; children Tammy Halderman of Dayton, Ore., and Steve Hunt of Baker City, Ore.; brother, Dale Hunt of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho; grandchildren Rob Cloud, Kyle Hunt, J.B. Halderman and Jenni Halderman, and great-grandchildren McKenna, Lorna and Marina Cloud.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Hunt.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel in Baker City, Ore.
