Horne goes after Butte County

Sue Horne plans to be in Butte County today to launch her campaign in a key population center of the 3rd California Assembly District.

She also expects to get the endorsement of former Assembly candidate Jack Lee, a Chico farmer who pulled out of the race last week, citing family reasons.

Horne will announce her Butte County campaign team and new endorsements at an event at 9:45 a.m. today outside Chico City Hall.

On Tuesday, Horne won the endorsement of the California Police Chiefs Association.

“She’ll fight for tougher sentencing for violent felons and gang members, and she’ll defend the three-strikes law,” said Richard Word, association president chief of the Vacaville Police Department.

Police chiefs John Foster, of Grass Valley, and Lou Travato, of Nevada City, in addition to deputy sheriff’s associations in Nevada, Butte, Sierra and Lassen counties, also have endorsed Horne.

Horne, county supervisor for southern Nevada County’s District 2, is running against Dan Logue, a Yuba County supervisor.

The two Republicans are battling for the seat left vacant by Assemblyman Rick Keene, R-Chico, who must leave the lower house because of voter-imposed term limits.

So far, no Democratic party candidate has entered the race. The primary election is set for June 3.
