Holding onto poison

Response to a writer’s “questions for liberals.” Questions for conservatives: I would like to ask this newspaper’s conservative readers a few questions.

Does the seething hatred and rage you direct toward people who question our president extend to the people who voted for him and now wish they hadn’t? While it is obvious that you blindly support George W. Bush, can you so lightly dismiss the millions of Americans who pray that Bush will follow the Jesus of compassion, not the Christians of Crusades or Inquisitions? Does the “winning” faction in a democracy’s electoral process have the right to bully half the country into supporting a war they created? I have long tried to understand what malignant shadows have perverted your vision of America into one of arrogant imperialism.

President Bush may be re-elected in November. What then will become of your hatred? You have already held on to this poison too long and it was corrupted your spirit and embittered your heat. Will you establish gulags for those who question you?

The world has come to regard George W. Bush as one of our most harmful presidents, and future generations will be genuinely mystified by your perspective and behavior.
