Souls of Mischief, four hip-hop rappers from the Hieroglyphics Crew, will perform Friday at an all-ages show in Nevada City.

A-plus, Opio, Phesto and Tajai, the Souls of Mischief members, have been friends since they attended elementary school in East Oakland. Their strong friendship has been bolstered by their mutual interest in music.

While the members were still teenagers, the group’s first album, “93 ‘Til Infinity,” debuted at No. 14 on Billboard’s R&B charts, and placed 109 in the top 200. The rappers’ second album, “No Man’s Land” in 1995, came in at No. 27 on the R&B charts. Other albums include an independent album, “Focus” in 1998 and “Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resolution” in 2000.

Since the mid-1990s, the quartet has toured with A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Common Sense, The Alkaholiks, Pharcyde, The Roots, KRS-ONE and Wu-Tang Clan, among others.

Backed by the Hieroglyphics Crew, Souls of Mischief has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Japan.

Last year, Souls of Mischief teamed with Pharcyde in a rap project known as Almyghty Myghty Python and recorded the single “AMP.”
