Trails accommodate hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. Dogs on a leash are welcome on all trails. Drinking fountains, restrooms and self-guiding brochures of the historical features of the many trails are available at the Visitor’s Center. Trail volunteers are also available to lead hikes upon request. Horses and bikes allowed on the 787 acres of back-country trails, but not inside the park’s developed thirteen acres. So leave your cares and pagers and cell phones behind and take a drive up Highway 49.

Mountain Biking:

Beginner to intermediate, year round, 1.5 to 10 miles, trail maps at Visitor’s Center.


Wear comfortable walking shoes, trails are rocky in spots. Carry water and stay on marked trails. Summer may bring poison oak or rattlesnakes. Trail maps available at Visitor’s Center.

Hardrock Trail:

Trail head at the Visitor’s Center, two mile loop, passes many historic mining sites. For free entry, park at Pennsylvania gate. Hiking difficulty, 2.

Osborne Hill Trail:

Entry, Visitor’s Center or Pennsylvania gate, five miles of connected trails, passes old mine sites and foundations, small creek, beautiful forest setting. Hiking difficulty, up to 6.

Union Hill Trails:

Entry, Pennsylvania Gate, five miles, variable difficulty, old mine sites and water pipeline. Hiking difficulty up to 4.
