Highland Commercial sells Nevada Brewery

Lock Richards, broker of Highland Commercial’s Nevada County office, has sold the “Old Nevada Brewery”, located at 107 Sacramento Street in the heart of Downtown Nevada City.

Recently called the “Sleeping Giant”, the 10,000 square foot 3 story building, listed on the National Register of historic properties, has received lots of attention of late due to the new owner’s public contest to determine the best use for the building. (With a 6 night stay in Puerto Vallarta going to the winner!)

Highland Commercial was hired by the seller to actively market and sell the property, which the Seller had received back through foreclosure from the bankrupt “Stonehouse Brewery.”



“We had several obstacles to overcome”, said Richards. “First there was the long drawn out bankruptcy proceedings, which lasted over a year. The Seller had to re-purchase the liquor license from the court so that it remained as an asset to the property. Second, we had to work through environmental issues surrounding underground storage tanks formerly located on the site where a gas station had once been. Third, we had to overcome financing difficulties associated with large vacant commercial structures such as this. And most importantly, we had to prove to the public that this was a terrific one-of-a-kind property. We needed to rise above any stigma that had been created by the failure of the Stonehouse Brewery. Together, with great resolve from the Seller, we were able to successfully accomplish all of this.”

The Seller, Stella Walcutt, commented, “Lock showed great fortitude and determination through the entire process. He operates with integrity and professionalism, and I would highly recommend him to anyone.”
