Herger nominates five for military academies

Five western Nevada County high school seniors have been nominated for admission to the U.S. military academies by Congressman Wally Herger, R-Marysville.

Herger’s nominees are:

— Michael Feagans of Nevada City, a student at Nevada Union High School, to the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and U.S. Naval Academy

— Shawn Landon of Grass Valley, NU, to the Military Academy

— Shaun Ostrofe of Grass Valley, Jesuit College Prep in Sacramento, to the Naval Academy

— Briana Thomas of Grass Valley, Bear River High School, to the Air Force Academy

— Ryan Wells of Chicago Park, Colfax High School, to the Air Force Academy

The nominees are now eligible to compete for appointment to the academies. Academy officials will make the final decision this spring.
