Herbert Mitchel

Herbert Walter Mitchel died at home Sept. 11.

He was 85.

No services are planned. Cremation has taken place.

He was born Dec. 16, 1924.

He is a survivor of the March of Bataan and was of prisoner of war for 3 1/2 years. He served in the U.S. Army first and retired from the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Mitchel is survived by his wife Helen Mitchel; doctor, James E. Irons, M.D.; nurse, Susan Elders, R.N.; and many wonderful caretakers; stepdaughter, Debbie Hammer; stepsons, William and Robert Steele; 13 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; nieces Ilene Chapman and Georgia Henney; and nephews, Allen Mitchel and Richard Atkins.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Carpenter Mitchel; sister, Elsie Atkins; and brothers, Kurt and Herman Mitchel.
