Henry Branagh

Memorial services for Henry Edward Branagh of Grass Valley will be conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at Calvary Bible Church off Highway 174 in Grass Valley.

Mr. Branagh died Thursday, Oct. 3, at a local hospital. He was 87.

He was born on Feb. 8, 1915, in California to John and Lottie Branagh. He was married to Alice Smith on Sept. 30, 1939. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, where he belonged to the Xi Sigma Phi Honorary Society.

He worked as a supervisor for Tahoe National Forest for 30 years. He was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Nevada City Rotary Club, Republican National Committee, Heritage Society, Society of American Foresters, Nevada County Horsemen’s Club, Nevada County Sportsmen’s Club and the Nevada County Historical Society. He enjoyed making jewelry, fishing and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice Branagh of Grass Valley; sister, Charlotte A. Bellig of Danville; sons John A. Branagh of Orinda and Edward R. “Ned” Branagh of Missouri; daughter, Marjorie A. Branagh of Turlock; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John Charles Branagh.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Bible Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
