Helen Waltz

No services are planned for Helen Scott Waltz, who passed away July 19 at Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital. She was 98.

Mrs. Waltz was born in Stamford, Conn., Nov. 7, 1908, to child psychologist and author Miriam Finn Scott and novelist Leroy Scott.

Mrs. Waltz grew up in a brownstone in New York City and graduated from the Ethical Culture School and Vassar College.



Giving up her career as a ladies’ sportswear buyer in New York City, Mrs. Waltz moved to Westport, Conn., with her husband, freelance writer George H. Waltz Jr., in 1956. After her husband died in 1961, she worked as a student counselor for the Famous Writers School in Westport and became a very active volunteer following her retirement in 1978.

In 2002, Mrs. Waltz moved to Grass Valley to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ted Peach.




Mrs. Waltz is survived by her sister, Hilda Scott Lass; brother, David Scott; and daughter, Nancy Scott Peach, of Nevada City.

Memorial donations may be directed to the charity of your choice.
