Helen McIrvin

A celebration of life for Helen McIrvin of Nevada City will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center on Tyler Foote Crossing in North Columbia.

Mrs. McIrvin died Wednesday, Feb. 22. She was 102.

She was born on May 7, 1903, in Rockvale, Colo. In 1923 she moved by herself to Oakland to help her sister with a new baby. She worked as a secretary for Air Reduction Corporation in the cylinders department. She married Clyde McIrvin in October 1929. In 1960 Clyde retired and they moved to Grass Valley in 1961. She was a member of the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Grass Valley Garden Club and the Bowling Club. She also worked in the hospital gift shop for many years. At Christmas time she knitted baby booties for all the newborns at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. She was also in charge of the luncheon reservations and remained an active member until about 1990. She enjoyed going with her daughter to various cultural, political and environmental activities in the community.



She is survived by her daughter, Lee (Arlene) Hudson of Nevada City; grandson, Steven Cote’ of Chicago Park; great-granddaughter, Kendra Cote’ of Chicago Park; nephew Wayne (Lou) Cerutti of Sacremento; and nieces, Clara Torri, Bertha Bierrer and Eleanor Merlone from Pueblo, Colo.
