Helen M. Goldwater died June 5.

Memorial services and reception will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 14, at Calvary Bible Church of Grass Valley, 11481 Colfax Highway. After the service, immediate family will gather at the Goldwater residence.

Mrs. Goldwater was born to Spanish parents in the Philippines and came to this country when she was an infant. She settled in Nevada County more than 20 years ago. She chose Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in the early sixties as a result of Miss Johnson’s Bible Study, now known as BSF, where she became a leader. Her devotion to her husband, family and friends was tireless and life changing. She was grandmother to 16, great-grandmother to 19 and great-great-grandmother to two.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, feeding the hummingbirds, watching old movies, searching thrift stores and reaching out to those who needed a friend. Her loving neighbors were an important source of comfort during her illness. Her children would like to thank her neighbors and Hospice of the Foothills for the good care they provided.

Mrs. Goldwater was considered an extraordinary wife, mother, friend and sister in Christ by all those fortunate enough to have known her.

She is survived by her adoring husband of 55 years, Irving Goldwater, a member of the Grass Valley Volunteer Police Department, and her children Linda, Cheryl, Steve and Jeffrey.
