Head-spinning fundraiser

Last Friday evening, Feb. 1, the Nevada Union Mountain Bike Club/Team held a fundraising Spin-a-Thon hosted by the Courthouse Athletic Club. While the event was initially planned to help cover team expenses, a portion of the proceeds will be used to fund the Dustin Link Scholarship.

We give a big “thank you” to Courthouse Athletic Club and Kristin Koch for hosting the Spin-a-Thon; to Homer Nottingham, CAC instructor, for being our master of ceremonies; to Kim Bacon and Julie Kaplan for instructing; and to other CAC instructors, Rona Butcher and Amanda Bradley, for their support and donations.

Additionally, we are grateful to business and individual donors who gave raffle prizes:

Ben Franklin; Blockbusters Blue Moon Apparel; Christopher’s Deli/Catering; Cold Stone Creamery; Courthouse Athletic Club and Members; Grocery Outlet; Jamba Juice; Knights Paint; KC Nails; Mi Comida; Port of Subs; Raley’s; Rona Butcher, Personal Trainer; Shabby to Chic; Smith Vineyards; SPD; Starbucks; Subway; Thomassen Construction; Tour of Nevada City Bicycle Shop; Weiss Brothers’ Nursery.

And last, but not least, to the team riders and their families who donated food and spun, as well.

This was truly a community-sponsored event, advertised by both The Union newspaper and KNCO radio as a community service. Anyone wanting to donate to the Dustin Link Scholarship may send a donation to: The Nevada Union Mountain Bike Club/Team, Nevada Union High School, 11761 Ridge Road, Grass Valley, 95945.
