Harry Benson

Services for Harry Anderson Benson of Rough and Ready will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Burial will follow at Indian Springs Cemetery in Penn Valley.

Mr. Benson died Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Grass Valley. He was 90.



He was born Sept. 23, 1912, in St. Louis to George and David Benson. He attended school in Missouri and Texas, and earned a bachelor’s degree.

He married Nell on Jan. 7, 1939, in Breckenridge, Texas, in a ceremony performed by his Southern Baptist minister father. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for the Texas Public Health Department and for the Yuba-Sutter Health Department in Yuba City. He was a member of the Texas Southern Baptist Home Missionary.




He is survived by his wife, Nell L. Benson of Rough and Ready; sons James Benson and David Benson, both of Montague; daughter, Eva Nell Darr of Penn Valley; grandchildren Jeanine, James, Rebecca, Russell, Cody, Noni and Kathryn; and great-grandchildren Emily, Elizabeth, Ryan, Levi and Wyle.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
