GV sex offender bails out of jail

A 58-year-old Grass valley registered sex offender has been released from jail after his arrest earlier this week on suspicion of failing to register with law enforcement.

Jack Steven Sobonya has been arrested approximately 33 times with 16 felony convictions, including a 1992 conviction in Ventura County for kidnapping and molesting a child, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Sobonya moved to the Peardale area May 13, but he failed to register with the sheriff’s office within five days of moving to the county, according to the sheriff.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Unit arrested Sobonya Wednesday for failing to register as a sex registrant, and he later posted bond on $10,000 bail, according to jail records.
