GV man identified as canal victim

A body found in an Auburn water canal Sunday has been identified as Larry James, of Grass Valley.

James was found at about 10 a.m. in the water canal system near Merry Knoll and Mount Vernon roads.

The Auburn Police Department is looking for witnesses or any other information that might help determine how James ended up in the canal. He apparently was last seen Saturday morning. James is described as a Native American, heavy build, medium height, with white hair.
