Guilt by association?

In our town, we have only one newspaper, the only choice for local politics and local news. The Union claims impartiality, although many readers notice a particular agenda in some of The Union’s “news”.

For example, “Donors behind the campaign gifts” describes the supervisors’ race as “officially nonpartisan.” The Union goes on to separate and identify those with ties to Democrats and  Republicans, inciting a partisan agenda to this nonpartisan office. With the country and our community polarized, the effect of this article is to increase the divide.

Another problem with the article is that it comes after a series of attacks against candidate  Bruce Conklin. Are you trying, with your half-page photo expose on Oct. 19, to tie Olivia Diaz and Bruce Conklin together, making Olivia “guilty” by association?

I like reading the paper for local news and the letters to the editor, but this kind of reporting makes me want to cancel my subscription. I just wish The Union was impartial and did not have a hidden agenda. This should be possible regardless of the obvious partisanship of the paper’s management.
