Green-waste curbside pickup soon available for Grass Valley

A regular green-waste curbside pickup is on its way for Grass Valley residents, replacing the pickup program that happens a few times a year.

The program ” which began almost one year ago in the unincorporated parts of the county ” received unanimous support from the City Council Tuesday night, and will soon be available in the city limits.

“One of our motivations is to provide a viable alternative to burning,” said City Administrator Gene Haroldsen, adding that the program will allow the fire department to impose stricter regulations on burning in the city.

Implemented and run by Waste Management, the program will mimic the one in the county where plant refuse is picked up every two weeks. Current Waste Management subscribers will be receiving an informational mailer within the next week explaining what green waste is and a number to call to subscribe to the service, said Tim Magill, Waste Management’s business development manager.

These subscribers can opt for a 96-gallon container for $3.07 a month, or a 64-gallon container for $2.91 a month. They must sign up for one year and a cancellation will cost an additional $25 for Waste Management to pick up the unused container.
