Got parking? Grass Valley to discuss future parking plans

On two occasions before Christmas, a parking consultant hired by the city of Grass Valley went to downtown parking hot spots and counted cars.

The car counter, TJKM Transportation Consultants of Sacramento, “wanted to get a worst-case scenario,” said city development specialist Nancy Sjursen.

That information will be presented at a free public workshop at 6 p.m. tonight in the Hullender Room at City Hall, 125 E. Main St.

The workshop’s goal is to decide whether the city has a parking problem and what to do about it, Sjursen said.

Changes or expansions to parking “should be done in a manner respectful of the historic character of downtown Grass Valley,” according to a city report on the matter.

At least one more public workshop will be held after more information is gathered about possible ways to create more parking.

For more information, call Sjursen at 274-4714.
