Good kids: Elks list OMost Valuable Students1

Grass Valley Elks have announced local winners of the annual Elks National Foundation “Most Valuable Student” scholarship contest.

The winners were selected from applicants from Nevada Union and Bear River high schools’ college-bound graduating seniors. Winners are Jennifer Arnell, Helen Huggins, Tucker Johnson and Rebecca Miller.

Those winners are now competitors in the Northeast District, and if successful there will go on to state and possibly national competition. They will also be honored at a lodge awards dinner in March.

Scholarship, leadership and financial need are the criteria by which applicants are judged. Winners are usually in the upper 5 percent of their classes.

Names of all higher-level winners will be announced in early May.
