Good-bye, gas guzzler: Walk to school week kicks off tomorrow

Leave the SUV in the garage – Grass Valley and Nevada City school districts are celebrating walk-to-school weeks.

The Walk ‘n Roll to School campaign runs from Sept. 29 to Oct. 6 at Lyman Gilmore and Scotten schools, and Oct. 4 to Oct. 8 in Nevada City School District.

Nevada County Safe Routes to School program is setting up several drop-off hubs located within a mile of the schools. Families who live far from school can drop off their students at a hub to walk or bike partway to class.

Walk ‘n Roll coincides with International Walk to School Day Wednesday, Oct. 6. About 4,500 schools across the globe plan to participate.
