Glenn Miller Orchestra adds class to fundraiser

“… the years rolled away to the tune of “Moonlight Serenade,” “Perfidia,” “Jukebox Saturday Night,” and “Little Brown Jug,” among scads of other immortal favorites.” – Carroll Gambrell

The Center for the Arts is hosting an elegant fundraiser to support its ongoing operations and improvements. This is a chance to dress up in your finery (period clothing? cocktail attire?) and show up to support one of the finest arts organizations in our community.

The official Glenn Miller Orchestra will be playing at the center on Sunday. A regal reception at 6 p.m. promises gourmet hors d’oeuvres, complimentary cocktails such as martinis and manhattans, and wine and beer for those citizens in the know who show.

The music starts at 7 p.m. with plenty of room for dancing to such great tunes as “Tuxedo Junction” and “Moonlight Serenade.” Or if you prefer, you can sit and enjoy the great music of the swing era.

It’s exhilarating to experience a big band in action. And it’s rewarding to support a worthy institution like The Center for the Arts.

Certainly the center is a venue where acts as diverse as barbershop quartets, swing bands, string ensembles, stand-up comedy and singer-songwriters spice up the culture in our community. But it’s also a safe, clean place where our young people go to learn about acting, music, theater, dance, painting and many more things that enrich their lives and ours. Try to put a price on that.

The center brings folks in from out of town to see shows, and they spend money in our shops, hotels and restaurants. They pay taxes, and that all contributes to keeping our downtown areas as vibrant and enjoyable as they are.

There are so many ways The Center for the Arts gives to our community, and here is a chance for us to support the center and have a blast at the same time. The center belongs to us. Let’s step up to the plate and show her we care. Get your tickets now. Call the Center box office 274-8384 ext. 14.
