The Glass Bead Players will debut Friday and Saturday at North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center with original dance theater.

Azriel Getz, Bill Dufford and Juliet Lin are in the Nevada County performance group, which also leads classes and workshops at the Schoolhouse. Each member has danced for more than 10 years.

The weekend performances include a butoh-influenced (post-modern Japanese theatrical dance form) solo and two duets.

The solo represents a rock and cycles of nature.

One duet is set to jazz and uses two chairs, two teacups, a rope, evocative language and a song to explore the subtleties and grandeur of everyday life. The other combines butoh and modern dance to explore family life and spiritual development.

The 8 p.m. shows are $8 for Schoolhouse members and $10 for nonmembers. Tickets are at Herb Shop Records and at the door.

Call the Schoolhouse at 265-2826 or Herb Shop Records at 265-3090 with any questions.
