Gladys Thorpe

A rosary and Mass for Gladys Thorpe of Grass Valley will be celebrated at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grass Valley. Graveside services will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Grass Valley.

Mrs. Thorpe died Monday, April 22, in San Francisco. She was 76.



She was born Nov. 23, 1925, in San Francisco to George and Gerry Anthony. She graduated from Balboa High School in San Francisco in 1944. She married Robert Thorpe on Nov. 17, 1962, in Reno.




She was the office manager for the American Poultry Co. in San Francisco for 10 years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a supporter of the Young Ladies Institute. She volunteered with the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed golf, bridge and traveling. She was an avid 49ers fan and was active with the Grass Valley Senior Center.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Patti Thorpe of Penn Valley; granddaughter, Jenny Thorpe of Penn Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thorpe, in 1995.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Young Ladies Institute for the Mount St. Mary’s Scholarship Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
