Nevada County teenagers Betsy Gilbert and Sheri Spangler recently donated 15 inches each of their hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to needy U.S. children who have long-term medical hair loss.

Gilbert first donated about 15 inches to the nonprofit four years ago. She introduced Savoir-Faire salon owner Nancy Lawrence to the organization. Gilbert had learned about Locks of Love on an episode of “Geraldo.”

To donate hair, call Lawrence at 268-7376. She will braid, cut, package, and mail it to Locks of Love, with a note including the donor’s name and address, free of charge. To learn more about the nonprofit, visit
