Gerald Murphy

Graveside services for Gerald 3Jerry² F. Murphy of Nevada City will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the New Elm Ridge Cemetery in Grass Valley.

Mr. Murphy died Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. He was 69.

He was born on Oct. 16, 1933, in Panama, Okla., to Patrick Murphy and Leva M. Keeney. He attended Nevada City grammar school and graduated from Nevada City High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army for three years, serving one in Korea. He was in the U.S. Army Reserve for five years. He married Barbara 3Joyce² on Nov. 30, 1968, in Sacramento. He had worked in the grocery business for 30 years. He enjoyed woodcutting, hunting, and fishing. He was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara 3Joyce² Murphy of Nevada City; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Richard W. and Laura Sharsmitt of Cedar Ridge; brother, Henry Murphy of Tracy; and granddaughters, Christine A. Sharsmitt and Ricki Lynne Sharsmitt, both of Cedar Ridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Thrift Shop or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
