George Peterson

Services will be held for George Peterson of Modesto at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Modesto. Burial will be private. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Colonial Chapel of Franklin and Downs in Modesto.

Mr. Peterson, a Grass Valley native who lived in Modesto the past 44 years, died Thursday at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. He was 73.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Modesto Teachers Association, the California State Teachers Association and the Elks Club. He was a counselor at Downey High School from 1958 to 1963, and at Davis High School from 1963 until his retirement in 1993. He was a former choir director for the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He and his wife, Patricia, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary earlier this month.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of Modesto; daughter and son-in-law, Leanne and Dimitri Guzman of Modesto; brothers Eugene Peterson of Burlingame and J.F. Peterson of Lafayette; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Catanesi.

Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church building fund, 1813 Oakdale Road, Modesto, CA, 95355.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Colonial Chapel of Franklin and Downs in Modesto.
