Eugene “Gene” Robert Stark of Auburn died Aug. 14 at his home. He was 90.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, in Auburn, at the Miners Station apartment’s clubhouse. For information, call 273-4150.

Mr. Stark was born Jan. 2, 1918, in Oakland to Charles Stark and Mary Louise Freeman Stark. He brought his family from the Bay Area to Grass Valley in 1959. He bought the then “Bluebird Cafe” and later worked in other area restaurants until 1973, when he and his wife moved to South Lake Tahoe and continued to work in the food service business. In 1995 Gene retired and moved to Roseville, and a year later settled in Auburn.

Mr. Stark is survived by his two sons, Ken and wife Carolyn of Auburn and Lew and wife Ramone of Grass Valley; daughter-in-law, Joann Tofanelli Stark of Sacramento; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Stark married Alicia Faye Tooker in 1941. She preceded him in death, as did his oldest son, Roger Eugene Stark.
