‘Gather the Women’ offers entertainment, inspiration
For the third year, women of all ages are gathering Tuesday to commemorate International Women’s Day, an occasion marked by women’s groups around the world. This year a local event, sponsored by Gather the Women Global Matrix, will take place in Nevada City at the Miners Foundry. The theme is “Compassionate Power Leads the Way.”
Included in the evening is music, dance and presentations by women on such topics as “Becoming Free” with artist Lowell Brook. Local author Victoria Covell of Nevada City will speak on “Evolutionary Woman of the 21st Century,” and other local women authors will be selling their books at a book table. A video message will be played by internationally known visionary, educator and author Barbara Marx Hubbard.
KVMR radio, Nevada City, is broadcasting a segment of the program live from 8-9 p.m.
Founding member of the organization, Marilyn Nyborg, who has been dubbed the “mother” of Gather The Women, describes the organization as “a global community of women committed to practicing compassionate and collaborative use of our power…Above all we offer opportunities to come together, to network, to connect across the lines of politics and belief systems.”
The event offers women entertainment, inspirational and educational messages, and the opportunity to network with other women who want to make the community a better place.
Another celebration of International Women’s Day takes place March 9, 7-9:30 p.m., at Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains, 246 S. Church St, Grass Valley. Music is by the Patruzhki Balkan Singers. Speakers are Victoria Covell, author of “Evolutionary Women of the 21st Century” and Linda Stevens, former mayor of Grass Valley, speaking on “Women in Government.” Refreshments follow the program. $5 suggested donation includes refreshments.
