Fundraiser promises ‘one of the best auctions in town’

Bracing for possible state budget cuts, benefits that raise money for schools are becoming more popular than ever.

The Nevada City School of the Arts is having its annual fund raiser Saturday, promising “one of the best auctions in town,” say organizers. The high point is prints of the school’s Amnesty International award-winning “Mt. Everest Children’s Campaign,” a multi-age collaborative work that is colorful and has a message.

The money will support activities such as the field studies program and pay for science and art supplies. The evening also includes dancing to the Nevada County Regulators and wine and food. The event goes green this year, using only reusables, compostables and recyclables.

The school, an award-winning public charter school dedicated to an academic curriculum informed, inspired and infused with art, music, dance and extensive field studies, is in Nevada City on Bitney Springs Road.
