Fundraiser for assault victim planned

A fundraiser for assault victim Josh Harkins will be held next week at Citizens Restaurant in Nevada City, put on by the restaurant staff and Harkins’ friends and family.

Volunteers will serve a spaghetti dinner with garlic bread and soda for $15 per person.

All proceeds will go to the Harkins family.

Harkins, 25, was assaulted Friday at Condon Park skate park in Grass Valley as he tried to stop a fight involving a group of young men.

Witnesses said Patrick Cronan, 20, attacked Harkins from behind and hit him in the side of the head with the trucks of his skateboard.

Cronan is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury.

Harkins is in a medical coma with brain injuries at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

A donation box will also be at the fundraiser.

The event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. June 18 at Citizens Restaurant, 221 Broad Street, Nevada City.

Anyone wishing to help can call Citizens Restaurant at 265-5837.
