Fun contests at the fair

The “Barnyard Buckaroos” are gearin’ up for the 2008 Nevada County Fair, August 6 Ð 10, and have they got some fun contests planned for you! Here are just a few of the new arrivals for 2008.

“Y’all Can Call me ‘Martha'”: So you think you’ve got a little Martha in you? Show up at the Special Events tent at 4 p.m. on Aug. 9 (Saturday). We’ll provide the materials, and you’ll have 30 minutes to create something for the home.

Confound the Local Judge: Bring an antique tool or other object used on a farm or ranch and see if you can stump the judge on its identify. Too big to bring to the Fair? Take a photo and send it to entries@nevadacountyfair.com. This fun event will take place on Aug. 9 at 4:30 p.m. in the Special Events Tent.

Scuttlin’ Squashmobile Races: Attach wheels to the fastest squash from your garden and enter it in the Scuttlin’ Squashmobile Race on Aug. 8 at noon in the Magic Forest.

Text Messaging Speed Contests: So you think you can text faster than anyone? Join us on Aug. 8 from noon to 2 at the Special Events Tent for this popular event. This is for children and adults alike. Show up a half hour before the event to register.

Also in the Special Events Tent will be fun games like the “Cattle Drive,” which requires individuals to navigate a balloon through an obstacle course; “Quick Draw Squirt Gun Shoot Out;” “Cowboy Egg Toss;” and “Cowboy Relay Race.”
