Free ice cream social to celebrate new lease

Beth Moore, vice president of the Gold Country Community Center’s Board of Directors invites everyone to “The Big Scoop,” a free ice cream social at 4 p.m. today at the Nevada County Fairgrounds (Gate 3). It is to celebrate the center’s new annual lease at the fairgrounds.

She says, “We’ll share current plans, answer questions, hear your ideas for classes and activities and unveil our new logo (which Dave Caddy and Hills Flat Lumber helped develop).” Plus guests will be able to enjoy Mindy’s Homemade Ice Cream, music, a no-host bar and raffle.

“It’s time to raise the rent,” Moore said “by launching a month-long competition during which we’re going to shake down our board members for $2,500 each!”

During July, board members will ‘liberate’ donations of $10 or more from family, friends and co-workers. Every $10 earns a ‘scoop of ice-cream’ for that board member’s ice cream cone on the display wall, and the one with the most scoops by July 30 wins. Support a favorite board member either at our ice cream social or anytime during the month.

“What’s YOUR dream?” asks Moore, for the Community Center.

Check the center’s updated Web site at for daily lunch menus, class schedules, activities and special events.
