Free hearing, speaking aids available for disabled

Free speaking, hearing, learning and mobility aids for the disabled in Nevada County will soon be available on loan from the FREED Center for Independent Living.

FREED recently received a $20,000 grant to buy items like talking scales, talking keyboards and special magnifying devices, according to Jeff Samco of the center. Now FREED wants input from the community to find out what devices to buy with the grant money, Samco said.

Wheelchairs and walkers are excluded from the program, but any other high or low tech device that can help people with vision, hearing, learning, speech or mobility problems will be considered.

To give your input, call Samco at 272-1732 or e-mail jeffs@freed.org.
