‘For the Birds’ birdhouse auction to benefit NCA and artists with developmental disabilities

Special to The Union

Neighborhood Center of the Arts provides opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to grow to the best of their ability through the arts and community integration. The sense of achievement and self-esteem that comes with being recognized and earning income as a working artist, carries over into all other aspects of daily life.

While state funding provides the majority of income to the center, and art sales provide income for our artists and help sustain the organization, we need to raise more than $50,000 through fundraising and special events each year to make ends meet. Costs continue to rise each year – occupancy expenses alone will be more than $90,000 this year. We need your support!

This year “For the Birds” event is our fifth annual fundraiser, which over the years has been a huge success thanks to all the artists in our community who have created and designed birdhouses. Neighborhood Center of the Arts is also grateful to all the community members who continue to attend this event and support NCA through purchasing a ticket as well as bidding on and purchasing birdhouses.

This event takes place at the Miner’s Foundry in Nevada City, 325 Spring Street, Nevada City, Nov. 6, 6 to 9 p.m. $25 ticket includes wine tasting, food and live entertainment. Tickets are available at The Book Seller, Nevada City Winery, and Neighborhood Center of the Arts, NCA.

This is a huge fundraiser for Neighborhood Center of the Arts, which requires a lot of community support from local artists, and the support and cooperation of staff, volunteers as well as our Board members.

Last year NCA received over 90 birdhouses and we were able to raise $8,000 due to birdhouse sales. Thanks again to local artists, individuals and businesses that sponsored NCA’s “For the Birds” charity event.

Sponsors for this event are welcome and greatly appreciated from individuals, organizations

and businesses to help NCA provide a valuable program for adults with developmental disabilities. Donations may be sent to NCA 200 Litton Drive #212 Grass Valley CA 95945.
