The Foothill Lions Club of Grass Valley recently installed benches at DeVere Mautino Park in Grass Valley, according to a release.

The park was founded by DeVere Mautino, the first female mayor of Grass Valley, when she chased her vision of converting an unkempt lot into a community park with expansive lawns.

Foothill Lions President Arnie Romanello remembers Dee as being a strong-willed individual who was passionate about parks and recreation. Last year, shortly after Dee’s passing at the age of 91, the Lions Club dedicated a new sign at the entrance of the park. The park is located at Alta Street and Alta Hill Mine Road.

Linda Stevens, also a Foothill Lion and a former Grass Valley mayor, recently sat on one of the park benches and reflected that Dee would have enjoyed sitting there, hearing the sounds of families and children playing in the park.
