Fool’s parade

This is in response to “Definition of lying” letter, published Sept. 21. The “only thing” Bush did wrong was trust others in his hawkish administration to promote selective intelligence serving a pre-determined end: War with Iraq. The “intelligence” used to promote the war has since, or had previously been, proven dubious at best. All intelligence that dissented from that was ignored. Or maybe the writer meant to say that Bush’s advisors duped him into taking action. Take your pick.

Regarding the “CBS papers,” a former National Guard officer failed to properly reveal the source of factual information he provided to CBS. I agree that CBS failed miserably to accurately source the information, but I don’t see how one individual amounts to “enormous lengths by some on the liberal Democratic side” or why Dan Rather would end up serving on John Kerry’s cabinet.

I also don’t recall Clinton Democrats on TV and radio, nor in newspapers, insisting, “character doesn’t matter.” Besides, Clinton’s lie didn’t kill anybody. Ironic, isn’t it? That Republicans would parrot the “character matters” argument five years ago and yet ignore it completely now. Especially after over 1,000 soldiers have died in a fools’ parade of a war.
