Food for thought

Since Drew Bedwell resigned from the Board of Supervisors, the person who wins the election for District 3 (Bruce Conklin, John Spencer or Linda Stevens) will take a seat immediately as a member of the board. When I became aware of this fact, I started thinking about the whole makeup of the board for the two remaining months of 2004.

I have read the articles about Bruce Conklin and how the money given to Nevada County by Dryden Wilson for park or open-space use was allocated to the renovation of North Star House. The entire process of this allocation in such a hurried fashion, including meetings on Christmas Eve, is disturbing.

I am concerned about Conklin’s possible return to the board along with Peter Van Zant and Barbara Green ” giving us three of the four board members who voted for the speedy appropriation of funds in the final days of December 2002. I am writing this to give voters food for thought as I don’t think most individuals realize that the District 3 seat will be filled immediately after Nov. 2.
