Folkie John McCutcheon back in town Saturday

Five-time Grammy nominee John McCutcheon’s annual concerts have outgrown the Miners Foundry, so that is why he will be at the Grass Valley Memorial Veterans Building at 8 p.m. Saturday night.

“He plays solo, but he plays a lot of stuff, piano, banjo, guitar, fiddle and a hammer dulcimer with foot pedals,” said Brian Terhorst, general manager for KVMR, which is sponsoring the concert. “He’s considered a world master at hammer dulcimer.”

The renowned folk music master plays new music during the first half of his shows and at intermission, “people drop requests off on the stage,” for the second set, Terhorst said.

According to McCutcheon’s Web site, he performs as a story teller reminiscent of Will Rogers and Garrison Keillor. He travels the globe playing songs from his 24 recordings.

Tickets for KVMR members are $14 and $17 for all others. They are available at BriarPatch, Record Connection, at the door or through KVMR’s Web site at http://www.kvmr.org.
