Florence Crable

A private memorial service for Florence B. Crable of Grass Valley will be conducted at a later date.

Mrs. Crable died Tuesday, Sept. 7, at home. She was 84.

She was born on Jan. 3, 1920, in Long Beach, to Robert Lee Bryan and Violet Mae Porter. She married Francis R. “Bob” Crable in 1955.

She graduated from high school and continued her education in community college at UCLA. She was a homemaker. In her 50s, she decided to become a nurse and graduated from nursing school in San Francisco with an LVN degree, the oldest in her class. She was licensed in California, Arizona and Washington, where she worked in a general hospital for four years. She was a speed reader, enjoyed reading and collected many books. She also enjoyed travel, by car in the U.S. and abroad by sea, air, river and train. She traveled the British Isles, France, Ireland, Spain, Russia, China and the Maritimes of Canada.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Francis Crable; daughter, Susan; brothers Earl and Stanley; grandchildren Natalie, Lisa, Aaron and Justin; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Violet; brother, Robert; and daughter, Lynda in 1996.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
